local intervention
Regeneration Elephant & Castle - London
There are different levels of involvement concerning the forthcoming changes in the central district ’Elephant & Castle’ in London. As the founding member of the regeneration group of the local Tenants Association, we have the possibility to propose small changes and interventions on the local, modernist estate. These are proposals for small infills between houses, ideas for the improvement of the landscape and schemes which tackle the problems of noise, pollution and energy loss. Public art projects, which involve the people living on the estate, help them to identify with their local surroundings. Small urban design studies for Southwark Council establish a vision for particular areas or streets around the area and form the basis for funding applications. On the bigger scale we are involved in various master planning and traffic planning groups of the ’Community Forum’ which discusses the basics of the forthcoming master plan for the area. All these experiences are summarized in articles for a German architectural magazine, in order to highlight different approaches towards urban planning and regeneration in different countries.
